At the suggestion of member Tom Kraft, the Kirby Museum is building an Original Art Digital Archive. Tom's idea is for Kirby Museum volunteers to scan both sides of Kirby original art in color at high-resolution. This archive would not only provide amazing images for the online Catalogue Raisonné, but also help scholars and historians in their efforts. If you are a member and would like to volunteer to help with this project, please contact us at scans@kirbymuseum.org.

Our current specifications are:

  • 100%
  • 600dpi
  • RBG (color)
  • Scan front and back
  • no unsharp masking or auto adjust settings
  • include space in between edges of paper and scanned image (don't crop the scan to the edge of the paper, let us see the actual paper edge and some non-paper space)
  • save as TIFF with LZW compression
  • If you want to stitch the pieces together, go ahead, but send the pieces as well as the result of your stitching. We'd like to archive "raw" scans, before any rotation or adjustment of any kind. Please e-mail scans@kirbymuseum.org before sending large attachments. CDRs or DVDs can be mailed to the address on our Contact page.

Other scans and photos welcome!

That's right! Even though we're building an amazing scholarly reference with scans at archival quality, we're also interested in compiling scans or photos of Kirby original art at any level of quality.

Kirby-L, our Jack Kirby discussion group allows for sharing of scans between group members. Anyone is welcome to join Kirby-L and share Kirby art photos and scans with other Kirby fans and researchers. We maintain an archive of what has been shared so far - take a look!

If you have scans or photos and a discussion group isn't your cup of tea, contact us directly at scans@kirbymuseum.org.

Our Thanks To these contributors to the archive
